Technical Support
Need a hand with Caret? This page covers the questions we hear most. If it does not solve your problem, email us — we read every message.
Getting started
Caret connects to your own Linux servers over standard SSH, so nothing needs to be installed on the server.
- Open Caret and add a server: enter its host address (or IP), port (usually
22), and username. - Choose how to sign in — a password, or an SSH private key (with its passphrase if it has one).
- Tap Test connection, then save. You can now open a terminal, watch live resource charts, and manage Docker on that server.
Trouble connecting?
If a server will not connect, check the following:
- Host, port and username are correct, and the server is reachable from your current network — try it from another SSH client on the same network.
- The firewall or security group on the server (and at your hosting provider) allows SSH on the port you chose.
- Your credentials are right — for key-based login, make sure you imported the matching private key and entered the correct passphrase.
- If the server's identity changed — for example after a rebuild — Caret warns you. Only accept the new identity if you expected that change.
Where are my passwords and keys stored?
Your passwords, SSH private keys and passphrases are kept in your device's secure storage (Apple Keychain on iPhone and Mac, Android Keystore) and never in the app's regular database. See the Privacy Policy for the full picture.
Cloud sync (iCloud and Google Drive)
Sync is optional and stays off until you turn it on. It keeps your servers, snippets, templates and credentials in step across your own devices using your own iCloud or Google Drive — Caret has no servers of its own.
- iCloud needs your device signed in to iCloud with iCloud Drive turned on.
- Google Drive asks you to sign in and then set a master password. On Google Drive everything is end-to-end encrypted with that password, so keep it safe — it is never uploaded and cannot be recovered if you lose it.
Purchases and restoring them
Caret is free to download. A free tier covers read-only monitoring; an optional upgrade unlocks the terminal, file transfers, Docker actions and more, either as a subscription or a one-time lifetime purchase.
- Purchases are handled by the App Store or Google Play; we never see your payment details.
- Changed or reset your device? Open the upgrade screen and tap Restore purchases to bring back a lifetime purchase or an active subscription.
- For refunds or billing questions, contact the App Store or Google Play directly — they own the transaction.
Still need help?
Tell us your device and OS version, the app version (Settings → About), and what you were doing when the problem happened. The more detail you share, the faster we can help.
